When I was 8 my mother asked her children. What do they wanted to do when we
grow up? My older sister was convinced that I needed some extra screws so her
answer was that she was going to be brain surgeon, my brother wanted to work
with cars because that has been his passion since he was 2 years old, my little
sister wanted to be a mommy to many children. I wanted to have a child care
where I can teach kids specially boys to catch frogs.
When I was reading the startup of you by Reid Hoffman, the first chapter title is "All Humans Are
Entrepreneurs", this early memory of my childhood came to me and I reflect upon
our age and first then fact that we knew what we wanted but there is where our
journey began. We have the capacity to dream but to get to our goal is a hard
road but a beautiful one. I agree with what Reid Hoffman mentions as "The
carrier old escalator is jammed" referring to a way of work before even 30 years
ago, it was either you are a doctor, lawyer, engineer, teacher, nurse or a
talented singer. Now that old perception is broken and we need to keep up with
the constant change and evolution of the market needs and we can find a world of
opportunities to excel.
With all this week’s readings (What is Introduction to
Entrepreneurship course? Living Life as an Entrepreneurial Hero and The startup
of you, plus the videos) I am highly motivated to start this new adventure
because as everything stated that I am an entrepreneur. I started my business in
2010 in the child care profession and I haven't taught kids to catch frogs yet
(because I discover I am afraid of them). But I am ready to give big steps first
knowing who I am and what is my adventure in this life? I know my meaning and
why I am here. But my adventure has taken long time to develop because struggles
and bumps in the road that I am grateful those came along because I have
learned.
I love that in one of the readings (Living Life as an Entrepreneurial
Hero) mentions Dream Big, I have no problem with that but because of that I have
a hard time looking to the small steps. The future looks promising and exiting
with this class and lectures.
I am glad I have come to a place with minds that
think like me.
What’s a Business For? Was a great informative article that emphasizes virtue and integrity and the vital role in the economy and according to the author Charles Handy, he compares trust with fragile china that one’s cracked is never the same. He brings his comparison to a business and the trust people put in a business and those who lead it. Because we do business with companies to cover a need and both the company and the customer get the benefit, but now the benefit has been shifted to only the shareholders and not even the employees. But greed has taken over and according to the article there has been a report “that CEOS in America earn more than 400 times the wages of the lowest-paid workers”. With this evidence then integrity and virtue are vital to have the customer's trust and so far we don’t have that and the little we do is getting extinct. According to Handy the real justification for the existence of business is “to make a profit so that the business can do something m...
