I was pondering about a trip and the preparations for this. There are so many things that need to get ready before, some people try to be spontaneous and not pack the necessities and think that they will buy it when they get to their destination, or just show up at the airport and buy a last-minute ticket. Their trip can be expensive and not very pleasant. Every trip has been planned and requires time.
This week the readings were very refreshing and informative. Honesty and Business Ethics. Businesses need preparation and time to organize details just as the trip I mentioned before, that in the long run will bring us benefits to enjoy the ride that any new adventure such as starting a new company. This will take some cost but not high cost if we plan.
Frank Levinson taught me that someone loyal to you is better than someone with titles and many accreditations if, in the end, the loyal person will do a better job at the end. Also, the way he explains how to start up a business is explained very simply and I really liked how he put it “The point is, it doesn’t matter how you look, what matters is what you do. So, focus on that”. I will apply this as it doesn’t matter the looks of my office or furniture if the work I do is of great quality. This part is where the business ethic comes to play, Frank Levinson points out the best investment is from your clients and surround yourself with good people.
Ken Zolot, gave a clear and beautiful definition of an entrepreneur “entrepreneur is someone who's willing to charge headfirst into a situation totally unprepared, unarmed, inexperienced, and yet still make the best of it”.
Jim Ritchie gave a formula of happiness in 5 steps: 1. Get up early. 2. Work Hard. 3. Get your education. 4. Find Oil, 5. Make your mark.
Sister Sheri L. Dew said that integrity is a virtue that will ultimately make you or break you. Integrity is mostly referred to as honesty.
I can’t see a business thriving without honesty and great principles in their founders and people that will work there. No, because we know these steps mean that this will be easy but means that we have a great foundation.
Dallin H. Oaks quoted this story about a father that told his son: “All that I have I desire to give you—not only my wealth but also my position and standing among men. That which I have I can easily give you, but that which I am you must obtain for yourself.” It will be easy to just expect everything that our Father in Heaven has for us handed with no effort. This week I interview a great example of entrepreneurship and she mentions that her daughters are anxiously waiting for her to pass the business to them and she said that she will never do that unless they are willing to work and learn from the bottom of the business up. Taylor Richards mention that after establishing his boat dealership they were invited to have this count down of the best dealerships in North America and the first time they ranked No. 11 and the second time No. 6, he said that he is a normal person with a great team. This teaches me that yes we want to become entrepreneurs but we need help along the way and ...
