The 7 Habits of the effective people by Steven R. Covey is a book that has been in my home since I was little. Listening to my mom's point of view of every habit and watching her using each habit has been a great example not only to read the book but to see someone having resulted from these habits. It is hard to only choose one habit because all of them are very important but I will base my selection on the stage in my life and what I need to implement more to reach my goals. First things first are the habit that has more meaning to me now. I am proactive because I created my own business and it has been working since 2010 and I have a clear goal of where I want to take this business to the next level. The wonderful advantage of this era is the information all around us and sometimes is too much to take to a plan because now I am confused by the step-by-step process. This week was a great reminder that God and Family are a top priority for anyone. I was reminded that is for God’s grace that we prosper in our projects and our family is the best support anyone can have. Jan Newman said, “There’s a couple of pieces that you can never let get compromised and that’s your loyalty to the Lord and your loyalty to your family--your spouse--and your family”. I like his approach about our loyalty to God and Family, means don’t take away the time we worship and serve the Lord and the time we can spend with our family. We can cut time in many other areas in our lives but this two we shouldn’t take time away to chase our entrepreneur dreams. Eldon Tanner in his talk “Success Is Gauged by Self-Mastery” said: “self-discipline, self-control, or self-mastery which is so important to all of us if we are to accomplish what we set out to do and enjoy the blessings which we desire so much” he explains that we need to know where we want to be or go and then the rest is...

A hero’s Journey video for this week taught me these key takeaways, first “Find great role models and ask them great questions” this is a very inviting and reminder that we are not alone and we can always have allies in our way to becoming that we want to accomplish. Another powerful key that I will treasure forever is three questions he asked 1) Have I contributed something meaningful? 2) Was I a good person? And 3) who did I love, and who loved me? These questions I will apply to me and my search for my calling in life to one day I can contribute to someone’s entrepreneur way. I am eager to apply the experiment to help to find my calling. Two of the writers for this week’s readings left great teachings for me. Clayton M. Christensen mentions in his article How will you measure your life? that one of the strongest relations we need to cultivate and care about is family relations because these are the ones where we feel happier. I understood that family relations are the most important because family is the base of all our relations outside the home and if we don’t feel good about our relations at home and we are not happy, this is how we can measure happiness. I feel that at home is where we gain the confidence to go outside and shine to our potential. Jeff Hawkins as well talks about effective choices and his decision to eat breakfast and dinner with his family and he is a great entrepreneur that made the choice of always being close to his happy place. I was pondering about a trip and the preparations for this. There are so many things that need to get ready before, some people try to be spontaneous and not pack the necessities and think that they will buy it when they get to their destination, or just show up at the airport and buy a last-minute ticket. Their trip can be expensive and not very pleasant. Every trip has been planned and requires time. This week the readings were very refreshing and informative. Honesty and Business Ethics. Businesses need preparation and time to organize details just as the trip I mentioned before, that in the long run will bring us benefits to enjoy the ride that any new adventure such as starting a new company. This will take some cost but not high cost if we plan. This week I had the opportunity to listen Randy Pausch Last Lecture and he mentions about when he was little his family went to Disneyland and he had this dream to create things like that. But what I think help him to achieved those dreams are his parents that didn’t stop him for dreaming. The video mentions that his parents let him write in the walls mathematical formulas and those are still on the walls until this day. He asked all the parents a special favor that is their kids want to paint their room, please let them. This request could have come pretty handy if my parents would have listened to this request earlier. One summer me and my sisters wanted to paint our room in pastel colors and my parents didn’t let us and the following summer my parents went on a business trip and we painted our room by the time they came back, there is a saying that said “Is better to ask for forgiveness then ask for permission” and that is what we did. When I was 8 my mother asked her children. What do they wanted to do when we grow up? My older sister was convinced that I needed some extra screws so her answer was that she was going to be brain surgeon, my brother wanted to work with cars because that has been his passion since he was 2 years old, my little sister wanted to be a mommy to many children. I wanted to have a child care where I can teach kids specially boys to catch frogs. When I was reading the startup of you by Reid Hoffman, the first chapter title is "All Humans Are Entrepreneurs", this early memory of my childhood came to me and I reflect upon our age and first then fact that we knew what we wanted but there is where our journey began. We have the capacity to dream but to get to our goal is a hard road but a beautiful one.
